Mock Interviews

Q1. Tell me about yourself

What they want:

  • Your background (education)
  • Relevant skills
  • Current focus
  • A hint of ambition

Structure (use this):
Present → Past → Future

Example:

I’m currently pursuing my degree in ___, with a strong interest in ___. I’ve worked on projects like ___ where I developed skills in ___. I’m particularly interested in ___ and looking for opportunities where I can apply and grow these skills.

Avoid:

  • “My name is…” (they can read)
  • Personal life oversharing
  • Rambling

๐Ÿ”น Q2. Why did you choose your field?

They’re checking if you’re intentional or just floating through life.

Good answer includes:

  • Interest or curiosity
  • Exposure (course, project, experience)
  • Future relevance

Example:

I chose this field because I was interested in ___. During ___, I realized I enjoy ___. It also offers opportunities to work on ___, which aligns with my goals.

๐Ÿ”น Q3. Strengths and Weaknesses

The classic trap. Half of humanity fails here.

Strengths:

Pick 2–3, back them with proof.

Example:

One of my strengths is adaptability. During ___, I had to ___, and I was able to ___.

Weaknesses:

Pick a real but safe weakness + show improvement.

Example:

I used to struggle with ___, but I’ve been working on it by ___, and I’ve seen improvement in ___.

Avoid:

  • “I’m a perfectionist” (retired clichรฉ)
  • Saying something actually harmful like “I miss deadlines”

๐Ÿ”น Q4. Why should we hire you?

Convince them without sounding desperate.

Formula:
Skills + Fit + Value

Example:

I have a strong foundation in ___ and hands-on experience with ___. I’m a quick learner and work well in ___. I believe I can contribute by ___ while continuing to grow.

๐Ÿ”น Q5. Describe a challenge (Use STAR method)

Because chaos needs structure.

STAR = Situation, Task, Action, Result

Example:

In ___ (Situation), I was responsible for ___ (Task). I faced ___, so I ___ (Action). As a result, ___ (Result).

๐Ÿ”น Q6. Tell me about a failure

They want accountability, not excuses.

Good answer:

  • Admit mistake
  • Show learning
  • Show growth

Example:

I once ___, which led to ___. I realized ___. Since then, I’ve improved by ___.

๐Ÿ”น Q7. Handling stress

They don’t want someone who combusts under pressure.

Example:

I manage stress by prioritizing tasks and breaking work into smaller steps. I also stay organized and take short breaks to maintain focus.

๐Ÿ”น Q8. Team conflict

Translation: are you dramatic?

Example:

I listen to different perspectives, try to understand the issue, and focus on finding a solution that benefits the team rather than proving a point.

๐Ÿ”น Q9. 5-year plan

They don’t expect a prophecy. Just direction.

Example:

In five years, I see myself developing expertise in ___ and taking on more responsibility, possibly in ___ roles.

๐Ÿ”น Q10. Questions for them

If you say “no,” your chances quietly die.

Ask things like:

  • What does success look like in this role?
  • What are the growth opportunities?
  • What kind of projects would I work on?

๐Ÿ”น Bonus: Rapid Fire (because they might test you)

Tell me something not on your resume
→ Show personality but stay professional

What motivates you?
→ Learning, growth, impact

Why this company?
→ Research them. Don’t guess.
